Now that I’m thoroughly barricaded in my apartment with the blinds drawn, Netflix playing, and AC blasting, I’m pretty sure it’s high summer. Sure, I stay hydrated, I bike to work for exercise, but at the end of the week I do like to fix myself a drink and relax. And since it’s so hot I need something cool and refreshing and light. Check out these summer cocktails with seasonal flavors– the fewer ingredients the better, in my opinion, so these cocktails are super simple as well as yummy. Oh, and don’t forget to hydrate!
Greyhound Martini
This drink is so easy and refreshing that you may find yourself wanting to drink more than you should–so drink responsibly!
Ingredients:
1 shot vodka
2 shots grapefruit juice
Method:
Pour over ice in a highball glass, stir, and serve. Garnish with a slice of lime if desired.
Variations: Use grapefruit vodka (I really love Deep Eddy Ruby Red) and sparkling water for a stronger, fizzy twist. Want something fancier? Use gin, add some cranberry juice, and call it a Sea Breeze.
Boozy Peach Iced Tea
Ingredients:
1 shot peach moonshine
iced tea (orange pekoe is ideal)
Sweetener to taste (if desired–I don’t think it needs it!)
Method:
Pour moonshine over ice in a pint glass. Fill with iced tea.
Strawberry Daiquiri
Make these in the blender for parties.
Ingredients:
2 lb. strawberries, hulled and chopped
3/4 c. white rum
1/4 c. lime juice
Ice (1 cup or as much as desired)
Method:
Combine the above ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve in a martini glass for class.
