Is the weather cooling off where you are? Fall is a ways off from south Texas, but I am dreaming about sweater season. Dreaming hard.
Perhaps growing up with teachers and eventually marrying an academic got me in the mindset of thinking of Fall as the start of a new year. Good ol’ back to school shopping only reinforced this feeling. Even though I’m no longer a student, I still love the concept of back to school shopping—new gear for a new year! Okay, enough of me dorking around. Are you ready to update your Fall 2015 wardrobe?
The following collection of classic and on-trend pieces will make the coming season feel like a fresh start—even if you’re trudging through your last year of graduate school or just keepin’ on at your boss career.
1. A Sexy, Cozy Sweater

Sweaters, the reason for the autumn season, ne c’est pas? You need an everything fall sweater. One that you can layer (over or under clothing), one that pairs beautifully with your Saturday-morning jeans, one that’s the first thing you put on after ditching your more formal work clothes… Bonus points if it’s comfy and curve-hugging.
2. Mixed Metal Jewelry

Gone is the rule that you can’t mix metal colors. Sterling silver, black rhodium, yellow gold, rose gold—there are dozens of possible combinations. Although purposely mixed metal pieces can be pretty neat, it may be even cooler to mix your own metal—wear a gold bracelet with a silver watch, for example. The mixed metal trend gives the wearer a chance to show off her collection and create a look that says, “I’ve gathered these pretty trinkets throughout my life adventures.” Jewelry’s even better when it tells a story, after all.
3. Everyday Clogs with a Little Height Boost
Clogs are perfect if you’re not quite ready to commit to a pair of boots. During the transition time between summer and autumn, you’ll sometimes face chilly mornings only to encounter toasty afternoons later in the day. A cute pair of clogs will keep your toes warm without overheating your entire foot when the sun peeks out of the clouds.
4. A Glam Vegan Tote
PETA X Freedom of Animals Virkin Tote
An “It” bag for the kind (and stylish) crowd, the Virkin bag may just be the best work or travel accessory a girl could ask for. Fill it with important docs, your emergency makeup kit, and your tablet—so you can catch up on PD, of course! A practical fashion classic like this will never go out of style.
5. A Sheath Dress that Can Go from Day to Night
A dress that you can wear both day and night is a wise fashion investment and a key wardrobe piece during a transitional season. For work, pair it with chic ballet flats; for night, dress it up with a silky pashmina and your highest heels.
6. A Chunky “Heirloom” Ring
Antique Bold Honey Citrine and Green Tourmaline Ring
As seen on the Gucci Fall/Winter 2015 runway, heirloom-style rings are a new (or recycled?) way to embody opulence and old-fashioned glamour. Our tip: Pile them on with abandon or wear a single one on an otherwise bare had—the perfect statement piece that glows in the late afternoon light. (What a lovely excuse to show off that dazzling and bedazzled ring you inherited from your great aunt Claudette.)
7. Go-to BSJ (Black Skinny Jeans)
New Look Petite High Rise Supersoft Skinny Jean
Like the day-to-night sheath, a pair of black skinny jeans may be worn for multiple occasions. They can even give you that “legging” look without risking the unfortunate “leggings-as-pants” phenomenon, (of which I am guilty—oops!). One of my favorite fall looks is black skinny jeans + faded chambray shirt (preferably stolen from you S.O.) + chunky scarf + weathered boots.
Which one of these are you craving? Anything else on your list?
