Happy Friday, dumplings! I don’t know about you, but Fridays always make me feel a little (or a lot) like shopping. What better to think about than party dresses to take you through the holidays? Since I live in leggings most days (wearing skinny jeans and one of my nicer sweaters is like business casual for me), I love getting a chance to go full-on glam with holidays parties. Sure, you can wear a sweater and jeans to your in-laws’, or your business dress with more flashy necklace and better shoes to an office party–and no one would think twice of it, since we’re a pretty casual culture. But do yourself up thoughtfully and you’ll pleasantly surprise people, and show them a different side. It shows that you’re respecting their event and presenting your best (and also let’s face it, makes you look super pretty). Also, if you’re hosting something, wearing something more decadent gives your guests the leeway to dress up, too. Without further ado, here are some of my best picks for party dresses this season.
Reformation Bordeaux Dress in Neymar, $278
This Reformation dress just make my heart go squee! Made from surplus moss green velvet, its cut pays homage to the 1930s. Because of its plunging neckline and high slit, I suggest this for friends’ parties–like the one where your guy is introducing you to his friends. Sexy but in a totally classic and sophisticated way.
Zara Dress with Knot Detail, $25.90
Not a huge fan of showing a lot of skin, or need something more versatile? This dress is short and interesting enough to be festive, but its dark color and long sleeve make it appropriate for a lot of occasions. For instance, this could work for dinner with in-laws and holiday drinks after work *and* going out with your friends on weekends.
Rare Sequin Dress, $118
Scared that sequins are too 70s for your taste? It’s not for the faint of heart, but silver sequins like these light up your face better than an illuminating foundation. Your skin will look so good all night! Also, a bikini-cut neckline is so flattering for your shoulders and chest. Save this for your most important holiday parties. Can you say New Year’s Eve?
Max Studio Sequin Paillette Dress, $38 (originally $138)
Same idea in slimming black sequins here. Fingertip hemline is super flattering and elongating.
Max Studio Jersey Cape Dress, $98 (originally $248)
Here’s an office party look for all you serious dumplings. You can rock this dress in even the most conservative workplace and not feel awkward–but look at that uber trendy cape back! Pair with modern, slick jewelry like statement cuffs or necklace.
Missguided cape back body-con dress, $68
This might be the most flattering dress here. The secret to a flattering dress is looking for a cut that fits close to the body, but has a flowing element. Case in point: this body con dress with the sleeves that turn into a cape back. This is also an utterly head-turning look. (Date night!)
Asos One shoulder dress, $81
You can’t have a party dress talk without mentioning red. This deep and slightly muted red is so much more flattering than fire-engine red. Not sure how to accessorize a red dress? Shoes can be metallic, black, or nude; try red lips in a different tone, and nude or black cherry nails.
Which one of these would you wear?
