Hailing from Perth, Australia, Bridget Malcolm is probably best known for strutting her stuff on the Victoria’s Secret Runway. While many of the Victoria’s Secret angels swear by omelets and even bacon to help them power through their busy schedules, Malcolm is an exception. The model fills her plate with a variety of vegetables and protein-rich plants—and refreshingly, she’s not one to skip meals!
“I make sure I don’t skip meals and am eating every three hours,” she explains on her blog. “I aim for four ounces of tofu or tempeh, a cup of lentils, and a handful of nuts as a serving. Try incorporating that into your daily meals.”
During the summer, Malcolm pays extra attention to her protein intake to help her build muscle during her favorite workouts (pilates and boxing!).
“The way I do this is I have a serving of around fifteen or more grams of protein a meal,” she says. “This looks like servings of lentils, tempeh, tofu, protein shakes, and nuts.”
Indeed, the fitness-loving model knows that mincing calories is no way to stay healthy or maintain muscle: “I eat pretty much constantly—it’s awesome—and focus on higher calorie foods. My favorites are nuts such as almonds, walnuts, avocados, and fats and oils. I never bought into the whole rely on carbohydrates thing in the vegan world.”
That said, Malcolm is well aware that one needn’t go overboard with the whole protein thing: “It is a myth that we need huge amounts of it to stay healthy and thriving; a myth that is killing the general population slowly. Vegetables have more in them than you would think!” She says.
“I am yet to meet someone eating enough calories who is protein deficient.” Instead of obsessing about protein, it’s easier to maintain a healthy weight if you simply “be honest with yourself with how many [calories] you need to eat in a day so that you can maintain a healthy weight, and stick to it.”
Malcolm enjoys cooking at home and occasionally posts her meals on her Instagram page. These balsamic-roasted veggies look delish!
