2 Easy Vegan Crackers: Cheezy Squares & Cinnamon Sugar Graham Crackers

December 26, 2017
When I was in preschool, I loved Cheez-Its so much, to the point that when I announced my love during snack time, a classmate asked the age-old question of "If you love them so much why don't you marry them?". A good question and I would if I could, but alas, when I went vegan, it was time to say goodbye to those alarmingly orange little snacks.
However, I am now saying hello to Cheez-Its' sophisticated older brother and sister with this recipe for Vegan Cheezy Crackers and Cinnamon Sugar Crackers! These "cheese" crackers get their flavor from nutritional yeast and are the perfect texture and flavor to have on their own or with dips, while the cinnamon sugar crackers have a slight sweetness similar to old-fashioned graham crackers, making them a great option for vegan s'mores. However you enjoy these veganized snacks, I hope you fall in love just as much as I have.

Directions

Both recipes are prepared the same way with the respective ingredients: 1.) Preheat the oven to 350°F. 2.) In a food processor (or high-speed blender) grind the rolled oats until they are a flour-like consistency. 3.) Add all dry ingredients for the pertaining recipe into the food processor and pulse until combined. 4.) Add the chilled butter and ice cold water into dry ingredients and process, pausing to scrape down sides, until it forms a crumbly dough. 5.) Take a large piece of wax paper and fold in half. Unfold and pour the mixture onto the paper so the other half of the paper can be folded on top to make rolling easier and cleaner. Roll the dough out until it is about 1 centimeter thick. 6.) Cut the dough into desired shapes. Squares are the simplest, but fun shapes for children are also possible so long as the dough is handled carefully. 7.) Place the cut dough onto a non-stick baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes at 350°F. 8.) Remove the crackers and allow to cool before eating or packaging in an airtight container until ready to eat.
