The holidays are a time filled with office parties, family get-togethers, and outings with your friends for festive cocktails or New Year’s Day brunch. Each of these events requires some level of dressy attire and a cute hairstyle to top it off. As my hair is particularly short, there is the assumption that my options are limited when it comes to experimenting with different styles, especially updos. Despite the length of my locks, I have found a variety of hair-dos that are versatile and fun. I have put together the perfect easy and dressy styles for the holidays, specifically for my short-haired gals.
Here are the updos I will be wearing this holiday season!
Braided Ponytail or Bun
I love wearing braids, regardless of the length of my hair. This style is so easy and can be worn straight down, in a ponytail. or in a bun. Start by braiding a small section starting at the crown of your head. When you are done, pin the braid towards the back of your head. Repeat on the other side. Once you complete your braids, you can pull your hair back into a ponytail or a bun. Pin any pieces that fall out or are just too short to be held in a hair-tie. I like to pull face-framing pieces out once I am done.
Twisted Ponytail
This hairstyle is similar to the previous one, only instead of a braid, it is a twist. This one is really simple, and one that I always go to if I am short on time, or want some easy to put together. Starting from the crown of your head, twist a section of the hair while pulling in pieces as you move down the side of your head. Pin the twist to the back of your head, and repeat on the other side. Once you are done, pull the remaining hair into a ponytail.
Headwrap
My favorite thing about short hair is I can experiment with different accessories. For some time now, my favorite has been my head wrap from Dillion Joy. It is an easy way to achieve a fashionable hairstyle, and it takes less than 20 seconds to accomplish. I like to pair mine with a pair of earrings. You can also get this look with a headband or a scarf.
Messy Half Bun
Messy half buns are best for festive nights out with your friends or New Year’s Day brunch. It looks effortless–because it is! As you pull the top portion of your hair into a sloppy bun, arrange it to make it loose, and pull out a few flyaway pieces. Using bobby pins, pin down the pieces of the half bun. I put one on each side, then I pull down on the front and pin it to hide the hair-tie.
