Natural Beauty: Organic Wear Mascara Review

This past weekend a made an impulse buy. I normally don’t buy cosmetics other than nail polish from the drug store, but I was feeling very curious about Physicians Formula Organic Wear Fake Out Mascara.

I confess, I wish it were socially acceptable to wear fake eyelashes on the daily. Perhaps I have this little fantasy because I wasn’t born with lush, no-mascara-needed lashes, or maybe I just have a thing for over the top glamour. Either way, I’m easily allured to high-intensity mascara.

That being said, finding the perfect mascara—dramatic or otherwise—is just hard. What’s more, the choices for natural, cruelty-free mascara are somewhat limited. It’s been thrilling to watch the growing popularity of natural cosmetics, and we easily have more options for clean mascara than we did five years ago. But as any natural beauty knows, mascara is one of the more challenging items on the list! Some wear beautifully but smudge easily. Some clump. Some take half a bottle of cleanser to remove. Most of them run or flake a little bit over the course of the day. (To be fair, many conventional mascaras do this, too.) Raccoon eyes, anyone?

So far, my favorite natural mascaras have been Josie Maran’s GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara and Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara. Ever intrigued, I’m always up for testing new brands and formulas. Fortunately, at $9.95 a tube, Organic Wear Fake Out is a fairly affordable experiment.

Organic Wear Fake Out Mascara by Physician’s Formula

One of the newest mascaras in the Physicians Formula line, Fake Out is made with natural ingredients only, 70% of which are organic. Preservative free and animal friendly, the Organic Wear mascaras definitely meet my personal requirements for safe, healthy beauty products.

So far I don’t regret buying this product. I’m particularly impressed with the clump-free application—this mascara won’t make a goopy mess on your eyelashes. I’m also excited that it’s actually long-wear. By the end of the day, there was only a bit of faint smudging/bleeding. The brush is a little big for my tastes—I’ve read that shorter lashes fare better with a smaller brush—but I did okay with the somewhat rotund applicator. Finally, for a “high-intensity” mascara, this one is fairly modest, leaving me to dream about those über-dramatic lashes…
