Meghan Markle brings a delightfully contemporary take on wearing jewelry that favors delicate, thoughtful pieces over huge gem-laden showstoppers. It’s not that we don’t appreciate the timeless glamour of the latter, of course, but Meghan’s jewelry style is far more wearable for most of us. Let’s take a look at how Meghan Markle infuses her outfits with fabulous (and sustainable!) jewelry.
Meghan Markle Favors Sustainable & Ethical Jewelry Lines
On numerous occasions, the Duchess of Sussex has been spotted sporting jewelry from sustainable lines. On the Royal Tour of Australia, for example, she wore jewelry from Ecksand. The Canadian brand is committed to sourcing conflict-free stones while using 100% recycled gold. Founder Erica Bianchini was thrilled to see Meghan wearing Ecksand pieces, including the Emerald Secret Heart Stackable ring—
“Just seeing her wear our pieces really reiterates to us that she must already be aligned with our values,” she told People Magazine. “And the way she brought them all together is so fun, she always put things together so naturally … I was really happy to see she chose [the emerald stackable ring] because I love emeralds and also they mean everlasting love,” Bianchini mentioned. “But I don’t think the Duchess needs any gems to reinforce that!”
Ecksand Secret Heart à la Folie
Markle has also worn pieces from Pippa Small, a gorgeous line that employs artisans in underprivileged communities in an effort to help them reach greater financial freedom and quality of life. Jeweler Pippa Small has worked with the world’s first registered Fairtrade gold mine in Bolivia as well as the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Afghanistan and Myanmar.
Small was overjoyed that Meghan wore two gold bracelets and a pair of earrings from the line. She told People, “I’m so thrilled that she was wearing those bangles. Even though they were just simple bangles — they look incredibly chic on her of course — but it’s what’s behind them that is so utterly amazing.”

Meghan Markle Isn’t Afraid to Mismatch (or Break Up Sets)
In her true contemporary fashion, Meghan has played with mismatching earrings—a trick that’s far easier to pull off if you stick to simple, delicate pieces rather than large statement earrings.
Notably, Markle also split up a matching Cartier set (pictured above), a tennis bracelet and earrings with baguette-cut diamonds, on her wedding day, choosing to wear the bracelet during the ceremony and the earrings during the evening—a choice that avoids the sometimes too-perfect effect of wearing pieces from a matching set together. Meghan Markle Embraces Repeat Pieces
In our book, jewelry is meant to be enjoyed again and again and again. When you’re in the public eye, however, it’s tempting to hunt for something new to wear each time you’re photographed.
