I’m a proponent of joyfully healthy living, from food to movement to rest to unwinding to herbs and more. I think most people don’t realize that a clean and nourished life definitely embraces chocolate!
Like many wellness experts, I consider cacao a healing food as well as a pleasure source, and there’s ample evidence to support that this beloved treat is a well-rounded healer. Of course, chocolate candy is not a healthy food; often folks confuse “cacao” with the highly-processed, hyper-sweetened mainstream supermarket bars that bear little resemblance to their cacao origins. Most studies on chocolate’s benefits are conducted with unsweetened, minimally processed cacao.
The winter season brings delicious opportunities to take advantage of cacao’s many benefits for well-being. As a chocolate and cacao enthusiast and herbalist, I’ve concocted numerous “ piked" herbal wellness cocoa recipes—but I think I’ve just come up with the absolute perfect one that balances function with flavor. One with enough medicinal mojo to have an impact, yet that still taste like a rich delicious cup of cocoa. I’ve been enjoying it every day with breakfast or lunch!

Pour hot water into blend it dry ingredients and mix till smooth, then add warm/hot plant milk and enjoy. You may want it a little bit sweeter than I do! I’m a low-sugar fiend.
It’s calming, it’s immune-boosting, it’s brightening, it’s mood-boosting, it’s beauty-boosting. It’s got plenty of antioxidant power and mitochondria-nourishing pyrolloquinoline quinone (PQQ). And it’s deliciously rich and indulgent. Enjoy for the rest of winter!
