Green juices and smoothies have been all the rage for years now, among celebrities and regular folks. Everybody seems to have their own favorite version or personalized recipe. The appeal is getting loads of nutrients in one simple drink that doesn’t require long to make and to which you can add your favorite fruits and veggies.
Personally, I admit that I am often too lazy or I just don’t have enough time in the morning to blend a bunch of ingredients and make my own juice or smoothie, but I have decided that I want to try drinking a green juice at least on the weekend, when, like everybody else, my mornings are more relaxed and I am not in a rush to get out of the apartment to go to work.
If you are like me and would like to try and commit to this step, but aren’t sure what to put in your drink, why not follow Amanda Seyfried’s example? The talented and gorgeous actress has starred in a slew of iconic films—Mamma Mia, Les Miserables, Mean Girls, Dear John, In Time—and is known for her dramatic range, trademark mermaid-blonde hair, and her advocacy of animal rights and refugee children. (She is a mom to a daughter with husband Thomas Sadoski, and numerous adopted chickens, goats, donkeys, horses, cats, and dogs.) No less renowned is her porcelain skin, which she credits to her green juice recipe.
“You put a ton of spinach or kale into a Vitamix with half a lemon (minus the rind), celery, hemp seeds, chia seeds, turmeric, cinnamon—which is very important for digestion—and an apple, pear, mango, or banana or berries,” she told Vogue.
Greens provide vitamins and antioxidants, while seeds contain iron, calcium and omega-3 fatty acids that are essential to our bodies. Fruit and especially berries also have a high value of antioxidants and vitamin C.
Amanda said that this recipe is actually Kimberly Snyder’s, a celebrity nutritionist, best-selling author of the Beauty Detox book series, a certified yoga instructor and a holistic wellness expert.
Amanda also revealed that she doesn’t like to wash her hair too often and relies on Kevin Murphy Fresh Hair Dry Cleaning Spray. Its antioxidants and vitamins protect against stressors and while the essential oils provide intense shine.
Other tips from the actress include wearing sunscreen all the time. (Note: according to a 2013 study, UV exposure is responsible for around 80% of the visible signs of aging—yikes!) Amanda also says she practices yoga every day and loves reflexology and massages.

To remove makeup and to moisturize not just her face but her body, she swears by coconut oil. As we know, skin is our biggest organ and what gets absorbed by it is released into our blood stream, so I believe it’s always a good rule to double check the ingredients of products we purchase to make sure they don’t contain parabens, endocrine disruptors, and preservatives.
To unwind at the end of the day Amanda likes to relax using essential oils. “I cannot live without essential oils. Now I really like yuzu. It’s just an oil, a flower, through the diffuser. Before I go to sleep, I do a lavender calendula mix under my nose. Citrus in the shower to wake me up. It’s just happy.”
There are so many different essential oils that you could just experiment with: for example, lavender is perfect for relieving stress, tea tree can be used to fight infections and boost immunity, chamomile improves mood and relaxation, lemon helps digestion, mood and headaches, ylang-ylang is good for headaches, nausea and skin conditions.
Of course, a huge part of her wellness routine is hugging and hanging out with all her rescues. There’s no better example who shows that inner beauty is what translates to outer beauty! Also by Anna: Treat Your Special Someone With These Stylish, Cruelty-Free Vegan Presents For Men
