It’s early March and still too cold to go outside without your winter coat. But even if you can’t stop wearing the same warm layers (looking at you, black Patagonia fleece), you can update your beauty routine! I plan on combatting my late-winter blahs with these experiments this weekend.
5 Spring 2023 Beauty Trends
Ballet nails
Move over, Barbiecore. Balletcore is the new ultra-feminine and fun trend for 2023. Think pale pink shrugs, leg warmers, high bun just below the crown or a low bun. With your nails, embrace “ballet nails,” a shape inspired by pointe shoes. Pale pink is a no-brainer, but why not edge it in black or dark gray for a hint of Black Swan-esque drama?
Digital Lavender
Following 2022 Pantone Color of the Year (“Veri Perri”), spring 2023 runways saw an explosion of pale lilac with a futuristic feel. It looks great on your nails, as a sweep of eyeshadow, or even on your hair.

Effortlessly flawless skin
I don’t know if this counts as a spring trend or just life-changing. Forget what you’ve heard about “glazed donut skin,” “glass skin,” “dumpling skin,” or what-have-you. The look I’m going for now isn’t just glossy and “radiant” because of beauty oil. Semi-matte, even-toned, clear skin looks like you didn’t ever lay out intentionally sunscreen-free by the pool when you were 16 (ahem). Elevated skincare definitely helps, but my best trick is cushion foundation (read my complete story here).
Statement headband
I’m not going to lie, this is a carry-over from fall winter for me. In fall, I got an ochre velvet headband from Loeffler Randall (an eco fashion and accessories brand with a great vegan shoe collection). I’ve been wearing it everywhere since, and gotten so many compliments. A great use of $65, based on the 15+ times I’ve worn it so far! For spring, headbands get a romantic and ethereal makeover with satin or printed fabrics. Trust me—you don’t need to do anything else to your hair and the compliments pour in!

Fancy scrunchies
Anyone who grew up in the 90s will cringe a little bit with the return of scrunchies. But these Gen Z have brought it back, and the more I look at some of the fancier ones, the more I’m sold! I finally was won over by my most fashionable friend, who showed up to our latest Zoom wearing a silky scrunchie high on the crown of her head.
