We’ve officially entered summer with its long stretches of sunshine, balmy breezes, and, to the joy of many a music lover, summer music festivals. Although scorching temps may throw a few beauty challenges our way (melting SPF, anyone?), we’re undaunted in our love for summer festival makeup. Whether or not you’re actually attending a festival this summer, we hope you’re inspired by these festival makeup ideas (they work for backyard parties and evenings on the town, too!). (P.S. All of the makeup featured here is vegan and cruelty-free and free of major body care toxins.)
Have fun with bronzer à la beauty Shay Mitchell.
There’s no need to bake in the sun to get a great sun-kissed glow. Summer is not the time to feel shy with bronzer. The key is just applying bronzer where the sun naturally tans your face (top of forehead, cheekbones, bridge of nose, and chin).
Try it: Lily Lolo Bondo Bronzer and Shimmer
Don’t be afraid to highlight. See this subtle, summery look created by celeb makeup artist Lisa Eldridge!
While summer sun may give you a natural “glisten,” a little strategically applied highlighter can still go a long way. Target the inner corners of your eyes, cupid’s bow, and the apples of your cheeks. Remember that a little goes a long way.
Try it: Kani Galaxy Milk—Illuminating Beauty Oil
Embrace earth tones inspired by this stunning look on former Miss USA Olivia Culpo.
Take a cue from nature and opt for an earthy lips and eyes palette. These tones tend to be flattering and easy to work with—plus they look great when paired with bronzer!
Try it: Lily Lolo Laid Bare Eye Palette; Red Apple Lipstick in “Beachside”
Or opt for statement color like supermodel Taylor Hill.
A single wash of a bold eyeshadow can make a pretty statement. For the best results, keep the rest of your look simple.
Try it: Modern Minerals Eyeshadow in “Lotus”
Rock a smoldering eye during the day. This playful cat eye is so cute on Gigi Hadid!
Festival makeup doesn’t need to be delicate. Heavy eyeliner, a smoky eye, or a creative cat eye are all fair game.
Try it: Eye of Hours Liquid Define Eyeliner
