Jenna Dewan has the kind of glow that makes us say, “I’ll have what she’s having, times two!!” The actress is famously fit, relying on her vegan diet to fuel her through hours of dancing, acting, parenting, you name it.
Fortunately, you don’t have to chug green juice to achieve a similar healthy-looking sheen. Jenna’s makeup artist Patrick Ta (whose hands have graced every VS model, Chrissy Teigen, et al) shared his glow-getting secrets with Byrdie. Here, we’ve combined his expert tips with natural, cruelty-free, and vegan products, so you can rock Jenna’s dewy glow guilt-free!
Ta preps her skin with a facial oil to give foundation a smooth, soft-focus finish. Rather than swiping oil over her skin, he presses the oil into her skin for deeper absorption.
Try it: Uma Oils Ultimate Brightening Face Oil, a blend that helps hydrate skin and prevent flakiness while reducing inflammation for an even-toned complexion.
To get the perfect match for Teigen’s complexion, Ta mixes different shades of foundation. For a subtle glow, he also mixes in a bit of light-reflecting primer. Foundation is then set to perfection with a damp beauty blender.
Try it: Juice Beauty Illuminating Primer, a lightweight primer designed to smooth the appearance of wrinkles while illuminating the complexion.
There’s more glow to go, however. Ta adds a shimmery, powder bronzer to the perimeter of forehead and cheeks, underneath her chin, and along the bridge of the nose.
Try it: Lili Lolo Bondo Bronzer and Shimmer, a gorgeous, shimmering mineral bronzer that provides a sun-kissed glow.
For cheeks, Ta uses a warm, peachy mineral blush, resulting in a gorgeous flush.
Try it: 100% Pure Fruit-Pigmented Blush in Mimosa, a shimmering blush pigmented with antioxidants and vitamin-rich fruit pigments.
Next, Ta applies a highlighter along the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, Cupid’s bow, and the middle of eyelids (a great way to make the eye’s pop!). While powder highlighters are excellent for everyday wear, Ta prefers a liquid highlighter for photo shoots when the goal is a “super-, super-dewy sheen.”
Try it: Antonym Cosmetics Baked Illuminator, a highlighter with pink-champagne shades that subtly warms the complexion. For an enhanced glow, go bold with Kani Galaxy Milk—Illuminated Beauty Oil, a hydrating oil blend with color-shifting sheen.
If you have oily skin, set your glowy makeup with a translucent powder, focusing most of the powder on the T-zone. Otherwise, follow with a setting spray or toner.
Try it: Blissoma Intense Hydration Tonique, a mineral-rich toner with 15 active botanical ingredients.
