It’s hard for me to believe that 2018 is just a few days away–it feels like just yesterday that I was writing out my 2017 resolutions! But with the new year upon us, it’s a perfect time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we hope to go. What better way to do this than through the lens of food? I tried a lot of delicious vegan foods this year: the Impossible Burger, So Delicious Shreds, and Trader Joe’s Vegan Marshmallows were just a few of my favorites.
The good news is that this year promises to offer even more new vegan products, and my taste buds can’t wait! While some of these products are already in stores, they might not be on your radar just yet. Here are the ones to look out for in 2018.
1. DIY Burger by Tofurky
Tofurky recently unveiled their new “DIY” collection, which features many fan favorites including chorizo, breakfast sausage, and Italian sausage. They’re sold in a uniform package, making them easy to form into whatever shape your heart desires!
2. Jackfruit Curry by Trader Joe’s
Two words: jackfruit curry. Trader Joe’s just stocked their shelves with this flavorful vegan dish, featuring jackfruit, everyone’s favorite pulled pork alternative.
3. Pizza Pockets by Gardein
If you loved those microwaveable pizza pockets as a kid, you’ll be rejoicing over Gardein’s version. I’ve tried a few vegan pizza pockets in my day, but I’m excited to give Gardein’s newest product a try.
4. Cheese Dips by The Honest Stand
I’ve seen this cheesy dip on Instagram recently, but I couldn’t find it in my Whole Foods. Over Christmas in Arizona, I managed to snag one! The Honest Stand dips are unique in that they have a very short whole foods ingredients list: water, potatoes, cashews, carrots, onion, and spices. I’m excited to try the cheddar version on a homemade mac n’ cheese.
5. Plant-Based Baking Kit by Cake in a Crate
Think Blue Apron, but for cakes. And 100% vegan and gluten-free. Cake in a Crate is a dessert delivery service, with pre-measured, shelf-stable ingredients and instructions delivered right to your door. This would make a great gift to a budding vegan baker!
6. Clean Meat by Hampton Creek Foods
Hampton Creek foods will be releasing a much-anticipated Clean Meat in 2018. The company’s meat product is grown in a lab, and it will be more sustainable and ethical than traditional meat produced in a factory farm.
7. Coconut Milk Ice Cream by Halo Top
You’ve probably seen Halo Top in your local grocer, but did you know that the company recently released a dairy-free line? Featuring flavors such as caramel macchiato, chocolate, chocolate-covered banana, and cinnamon roll, these coconut milk-based treats will be a great addition to any dessert.
8. Vegan Tuna (Ahimi) by Ocean Hugger Foods
Admittedly, I’ve never been a fish person – vegan or non-vegan – but I might just have to try this vegan tuna. Ocean Hugger Foods has come out with Ahimi, their vegan tuna alternative, which is made from tomatoes!
9. Dairy-Free Coffee Creamer by nutpods
Some non-dairy coffee creamers just aren’t that good, you know? Nutpods offers flavors in original, hazelnut, and vanilla, and they’re all soy- and refined sugar-free!
10. Just Scramble by Hampton Creek Foods
Just last week, Hampton Creek released Just Scramble, a 100% vegan egg made from mung beans. Mind. Blown.
