As you know, about a year and a half ago I transitioned into natural skin care. And this has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life, at least when it comes to beauty. These days, my skin care regimen is so simple: I use sweet almond oil to take off eye makeup; wash the face with fruit-oil based cream cleanser; tone with a natural toner and cotton round; then finish off with a few drops of rose hip oil or the argan-based blended oil Mary gave me for my birthday last year. (Best gift ever!)
I was just running low on Mary’s Apothecary serum (;)) when Kaeng Raeng was so good to send me samples of their latest organic skin care products. Kaeng Raeng, of course, is renowned for their highly effective, all vegan and probiotic detox cleanse program, which I reviewed last spring. They took their knowledge of detoxifying through food, and applied the idea to detoxifying through your skin. Their three new beauty products are all organic, natural, and cruelty-free, and are designed to deeply detox and nourish your skin.
1. Kaeng Raeng Cleansing Clay Mask ($25): Open this luxe ebony jar and you’ll find active charcoal and clay mask that smells like a garden after a rain (mmm!!). The two kinds of clay–bentonite and French green–pull impurities from your pores, while charcoal also detoxifies, and Himalayan pink salt adds a slight gritty texture for gentle exfoliation. Green tea extract adds an antioxidant boost. You apply it on your clean face for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
Even though you may or may not scare the crap out of your boyfriend with the mask on, you’ll feel like bathing in petals with scents of honeysuckle, vanilla, and gardenia. Afterwards, my skin felt ever so slightly tingly with a clean, but not stripped, feeling. My pores around the nose looked smaller and overall, skin looked rejuvenated.
2. After Glow Moisturizing Facial Serum ($20): This all-organic, luxurious golden oil include grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, rose hip oil (brightening; even tone; cell repair), argan oil, lavender (anti-acne; calming), frankincense (acne, anti-inflammatory). It is for normal to dry skin, absorbs quickly and is deeply moisturizing. After I rinsed off the mask and patted dry, I followed up with my regular toner, and then applied just a few drops of After Glow serum onto my face, paying close attention to underneath the eyes, forehead and cheeks. Once again, the fragrance from essential oils is just divine and it feels so luxurious. Immediately after use skin felt plumper and more nourished (read: not crepe-y and dry). It also felt more rosy and bright–dare I say I saw a bit of spring glow?!
Also, being somewhat of a skin care and makeup snob, I think this is an amazing luxury product that works better than serums at a higher price point.
3. Detoxfoliant All Natural Body Scrub ($36): I’ve tried my fair share of body scrubs and this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. First off, it has only all natural ingredients and nothing suspicious: just Himalayan pink salt, Dead Sea salt, organic apricot kernel oil, virgin shea butter, lavender essential oil, and vanilla essential oil. Yes, you could technically just eat it and it does sound like a very avant-garde dessert. It comes with a little wooden spoon and exfoliating sponges to make application a breeze (basically, no more digging in wet, dripping fingers into your body scrub and feeling frustrated by water getting in–am I right?!). (Really, they did think of everything).
I’ve been using this scrub faithfully for a few months now and it’s been keeping my skin from going all alligator on me, all winter. I pay attention to the particularly stubborn areas like heels and elbows, using circular motion to really get the blood flowing and release toxins. And after you rinse off, you really do feel very tingly and fresh, like you just detoxed.
Would you try any of them? Let me know if you have any questions!!
And pssst…stay tuned for a reader giveaway announcement coming soon! 🙂
