Actress and activist Natalie Portman has stared in several acclaimed roles, including that of a troubled ballerina in Black Swan (2010) and Jackie Kennedy in this year’s Jackie. While her acting alone is enough to enchant, I confess that I deeply admire her style and beauty—somehow she always looks lovely (without looking like she’s trying too hard!). Although the actress doesn’t appear to gush about herself too often (another one of her charming qualities), she’s graciously shared how she keeps her skin looking so gorgeous–and the good news is that her tips are things we can all do!
Her Diet
While some celebs may rely on a notable dermatologist and a high-end highlighter for their gorgeous skin, Portman credits her plant-based diet for her clear, healthy skin: “I’m vegan, and I drink a lot of water. If I have dairy, I immediately break out.” While living in France, Portman amazingly resisted all of the butter-laden staples of French cuisine.
Although Portman transitioned to a vegetarian diet while she was pregnant with her first baby as a way of listening to her body, the actress had a vegan, eco-friendly wedding in 2012 and seems to have quietly transitioned back to the lifestyle. Apparently, one of Portman’s favorite vegan staples is quinoa.

Portman is pregnant again but reported to Ellen DeGeneres that her current food cravings are quite different from the cravings she experienced during her first pregnancy: “I wanted like cream puffs or any dessert with like cream in it, or just plain whipped cream straight,” Portman explained. “And this time it’s healthy, like pineapple, cucumbers, burritos, which is maybe less healthy but delicious.”
(When she says burritos, does she mean a Peaceful Dumpling vegan Korean burrito bowl? We can only hope ;))
Her Skincare Routine
Although the actress recently moved to LA, she had been living in Paris with her family. While in Paris, she adhered to a minimalist makeup routine and intoned that part of the je ne sais quoi chicness of French women comes from their fuss-free beauty routines—which may go to show that sometimes fewer products is actually “more.”
“I always take off my makeup before bed,” Natalie says, using Bioderma micellar water makeup remover and Joëlle Ciocco cleansing wash from French pharmacies.
Portman also loves clean beauty brand Pai Skincare: “This organic British brand makes great moisturizers. They’re really clean and free of all the bad chemicals—plus, they smell fantastic.” Designed for people with sensitive skin, Pai products are crafted with organic, skin-soothing ingredients.
