Just imagine what it would be like if you learned how to achieve ANY goal or dream you have for your life…
The 2 tools I’m going to share with you will help you do just that!
Let me start off by saying this: If we don’t love ourselves, it becomes very difficult to succeed. When we lack self-love, we most likely self-sabotage–we talk terribly to ourselves or we do something that takes us in the opposite direction of what we truly want. Or both! This is where the practices of self-compassion and the Emotional Freedom Technique, aka tapping, come into the picture.
You may be thinking: “What does loving myself have anything to do with achieving my goals or dreams??” My answer is everything.
When you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, upset in any way, stuck or blocked, reach for these tools. If you are short on time or are a little weary about diving deep into the emotions you are feeling, try this self-compassion exercise! These tools are perfect to have in your toolbox with the holidays right around the corner, too 😉 This self-compassion practice and EFT techniques are practices that have made a tremendous difference in my own life.
Self-compassion
Step 1: Close your eyes, put your hands over your heart and take a deep breath in and out. Say either out loud or to yourself, “This really hurts” or “I’m really hurting right now” or any other wording that resonates with you.
Step 2: With your hands still over your heart, say “It’s ok to be hurting. This is part of being human.”
Step 3: “May I show myself the compassion, patience and support that I need right now.”
Breathe in and out. Open your eyes. How do you feel?
It’s truly amazing what a little kindness does for our bodies and souls!
EFT, a.k.a. Tapping
Now, EFT, or you may know it as tapping, takes a bit longer than the self-compassion exercise above, but it allows you to go much deeper so you can more fully heal any sort of deeper emotions that may be triggering you.
- Start tapping on the karate chop of one hand with the fingertips of the other hand. Say out loud 3x: “Even though I’m really upset right now, I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself.” Feel free to tailor the wording to how you are feeling in the moment.
- Go through each meridian point, tapping gently with your fingertips of one hand several times while saying how you are feeling out loud. Points: Inner eyebrow, side of the eye (tap on the temple area), below the eye (tap on the bone), below the nose (upper lip area), middle of the chin, collarbone (both sides or just one), under the arm (below the armpit) and top of the head.
- Cycle through the “truth rounds” as many times as you need to, until you feel a shift in how you feel, even if it’s a slight shift. For me, sometimes this can take 7 rounds or 2 rounds. Pause. Take a deep breath in and out.
- Begin the “positive rounds.” Saying out loud what you are grateful for, what is going right in your life, the support you have and any positive affirmations that may come up. When you are done, take a deep breath in and out and sit for a minute before getting back to your day.
What I love so much about these two practices is that they allow you to feel your emotions fully, move through them and find a positive outlook on your own, without forcing anything. I’m not knocking positive affirmations. I think they’re great and very effective when they are used in conjunction with spiritual practices! But not when they are thrown on top of emotions without any way to acknowledge, feel and move through them.
So how do these tools help you achieve your goals?
When you feel calmer, more at peace and can think clearly, you are in this magical space where you will always choose thoughts, actions and behaviors that will serve your highest self. You will make decisions that serve your highest good, you will take action on those things that take you to a higher vibration of joy and happiness and you will be divinely guided towards abundance each step of the way.
These tools help you reconnect with your higher self! Your higher self is that part of you that is lighter, calmer, more patient and more loving.
It is when we are disconnected from our higher selves that we think negative thoughts or take actions that move us further from what we really desire for ourselves.
Make time to connect to your higher self with these tools and you will achieve everything you’ve ever dreamed of and probably more!
