Emma Watson is one of those celebrities who manages to be a lovely role model, leading by example and with a quiet grace (not that we don’t love super outspoken gals, too!). Her recent ventures into sustainable living have prompted the actress to start a separate Instagram account to showcase her stunning eco-friendly fashion. A girl after our own hearts, Watson is also revamping her beauty bag and learning about green, skin-friendly brands.
“Recently I’ve become super interested in sustainability and transparency and understanding what I’m putting on my face and on my body. It’s been a fun little mission to see how far I can go with it… ,” she told Into the Gloss. “Can I create a completely sustainable wardrobe? Can I dress sustainably on the red carpet? Can I put together a hair and makeup look with completely organic products? I needed to figure out if it was achievable or not. You can’t talk the talk if you don’t walk the walk. So that’s what I’ve been discovering over the past couple of years.”
One of Watson’s favorite one-stop shops for green beauty products is UK-based store Content. If you live in the states, you can find similar goodies at online retailers like Credo Beauty, Citrine Natural Beauty Bar, and LeVert Beauty.
Despite her dedication to green beauty, Watson recognizes that you’ll be better off in the end of you don’t drive yourself crazy obsessing over ingredients: “Most of my routine keeps to an 80/20 philosophy because it’s very difficult to be a complete purist, especially when working in the film industry. You can end up driving yourself a bit mad and make it more stressful than it should be. Sometimes you just need a mascara to be waterproof and that’s OK.” I hear you there!
Emma Watson’s Glam Green Makeup Routine
“The object for me when applying makeup is you should be able to see as much skin as possible,” Watson says. She even insisted on wearing minimal makeup during the filming of Beauty and the Beast because she wanted young girls to see that even film stars can have freckles—and that freckles are beautiful!
“Everyday makeup is my RMS ‘Un’ Cover-Up Concealer [contains beeswax] and Powder. That’s an amazing brand—I’m pretty obsessed with RMS.”
For lips, the actress prefers to keep it red and matte. For this, she turns to Inika, which offers a line of gorgeous vegan lipsticks formulated with nourishing shea butter and jojoba oil.
Like her foundation, Watson keeps her eye makeup quite simple. “Jane Iredale does an amazing liquid eyeliner and she has one in a dark brown, which I prefer to black on my skin tone.”
For a bit of extra warmth, Watson using a self-tanning bronzer: “My makeup artist Dotti introduced me to the line Vita Liberata—they do a self-tanning bronzing powder that actually tans you slightly while you’re wearing it. It sounds like a lot, but it’s actually super, super natural.”
When it comes to makeup brushes, Watson like the Artis line, a luxe collection of synthetic, animal-free brushes.
