No. 04 Bois De Balincourt Perfume Oil

By Maison Marie Louis
$65
Surrounded by an ancient mysterious forest, Balincourt is the name of our family home where we took long walks on a magical trail called ‘Lover’s Lane’. This romantic scent is a Sandalwood fragrance with a dominant Cedarwood and Sandalwood accord that’s supplemented by a spicy Cinnamon Nutmeg complex with an earthy Vetiver note.
Top note: Sandalwood, Cedarwood
Mid note: Vetiver, Nutmeg, Cinnamon
Base note: Amber Wood

Editor’s Note

True story—as I’m typing this, I am luxuriating in my favorite sweater (a vintage varsity sweater from 60s) and dabs of my fall perfume, Maison Marie Louis’s Bois de Balincourt. I discovered it while shopping for antiques in Portland, and fell in love at first sniff. It’s a cult-favorite scent that has been endlessly imitated and never quite replicated. (Mondo Mondo The Center of the World perfume is very similar and features a sexier bottle, but the smell didn’t last on me quite as long as Balincourt. Fyi.) The key I think is the combination of creamy sandalwood and cedar, which is a beloved tree here in the Pacific Northwest—when it rains, cedar smells like camping in the forest with a new lover.
