This recipe for Apple Nachos falls under my very favorite snack category of “sweet and salty.”  Even though this it’s quite simple to put together, it’s a big crowd pleaser and I can’t wait to make it for Thanksgiving this year. Apple pie is great, but what’s more fun than nachos?

Crispy Apple Chips

makes 4 servings

What you’ll need:

4 apples

1 tbs cinnamon

1 tsp sea salt

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 225°

2. Use a mandolin slicer or a sharp knife to cut the apple into the thinest possible slices (1/8″ thick or less).

3. Place apple slices on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon and salt. Bake in the oven for 1 hour.

4. Remove slices from oven and set to cool. They will feel a little soft coming out of the oven but they will firm up as they cool.

Apple Nachos

makes 4 servings

What you’ll need:

1 batch of Crispy Apple Chips

2 tbs nut butter of your choice

2 tbs agave

2 tbs cocoa powder

4 tbs cacao nibs (you can also you chocolate chips)

Directions:

1. Spread apple chips out on a plate or tray. Mix cocoa powder and agave together in a cup and drizzle over chips with a spoon or pastry bag. This mixture will harden over time so make sure to drizzle it right away.

2. Some nut butters will be able to be drizzled with a spoon straight from the jar, while others may be a little too solid. If yours is too solid, warm it up in a small pot on the stove first.

3. Sprinkle cacao nibs over everything. Enjoy as is or heat the nachos up in the oven for a a few minutes to enjoy them warm!
