By now, most of us are no strangers to the importance of keeping our nails (and selves) healthy by avoiding five of the most common toxic and unhealthy ingredients in conventional nail polish—ingredients like formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene, and DBP. At Peaceful Dumpling, we also opt for vegan nail polish that avoids the use of any sketchy animal dyes like carmine (present in some red colorants). Not only do non-toxic nail polish brands keep these unsavory ingredients out of your beauty arsenal, their avoidance of harsh chemicals makes their polishes a bit gentler on nails, which is key if you’re already prone to brittle or peeling nails.
Fortunately, there are now at least a dozen brands that offer high-quality alternatives in fashion-forward shades. In fact, we’ve already showcased 10 of our favorite cruelty-free, 5-free, vegan nail polish brands. That list doesn’t even include sundays–an up-and-coming brand and nail studio that we’re teaming up with on June 27, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the sundays studio at Saks 5th Avenue Wellery. Peaceful Dumpling editor-in-chief Juhea Kim will be talking to sundays founder Amyling Lin about living sustainably (More deets here!).
Thanks to the luxe quality of brands like sundays, 5-free and vegan nail polish brands are catching on—even among the celebrity set. Green living lover Jessica Alba and everyone’s favorite political melodrama star Kerry Washington are both reported to love Priti NYC, a non-toxic vegan nail polish brand that’s also free of xylene, parabens, and gluten. The glossy polishes are fast-drying and chip-resistant. Also, Priti NYC polishes contain a UV-inhibitor to protect your nails from UV-caused discoloration (which is really handy–har, har–during the summer months!). Finally, the non-toxic polishes are safe for children and expectant mothers.
The vegan nail lacquer brand has been a sponsor of New York Fashion Week since 2005 and has designed custom colors for notable designers, including Stella McCartney, Vionnet, Acne Studios, Donna Karan, and Monique Lhuillier. Priti NYC offers more than 100 on-trend shades. Alba’s favorite? Schwarzkopf, a deep navy creme.
Meanwhile, Washington turns to Priti NYC’s Soy Nail Polish Remover. This acetone-free remover helps prevent nails from drying out, and it’s non-smelly, which made Washington feel more comfortable doing her nails around her newborn daughter.
Not on the vegan nail polish bandwagon yet? Don’t forget to check out brands like sundays, Priti NYC, and others! Your nails will thank you—and your mani will look just as fly as ever 😉
